As I’m laying here in bed listening/watching the Rangers game…..My mind keeps trailing off to thoughts about my upcoming Ironman. I know that I’ve polluted my news feed and profile with posts about my workouts and training sessions. While I realize it gets old and many of you don’t cares about how many miles I’ve logged for the day. It often keeps me motivated to post my workouts. I feel like the world is watching me work towards this goal that I secretly set for myself 3 years ago.
I’m 16 days away from toeing up to the start line and honestly, I am scared shitless! Not to take anything away from people who run marathons because running 26.2 miles is quite an accomplishment but we’re talking 140.6 miles of hard core working out that you don’t put together until race day. I’ve done my homework and I’ve logged the miles but my primary concern right now is “Will my body hold up”?! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been very fortunate thus far and have avoided injuries (knock on wood) and I have a nutrition plan in place but there are a million factors that go into having the perfect race day!
Over the course of the last year, I’ve questioned my sanity…especially training in the heat we had this summer but I can’t seem to shake the feeling of what it’s going to be like to cross the finish line at an Ironman. I’ve had a taste of the drug…yes I’m calling it a drug because once you’ve crossed the finish line at a Triathlon…you want more and you want a bigger high!! So, while my sanity may be questionable, the bigger the challenge…the greater the reward!
So, for the next 16 days I’ll continue to sacrifice my weekends with early morning workouts to achieve this crazy goal/thing called Ironman and I’ll look to all of you who read this for encouragement and support until I run, walk, crawl or roll across the finish line J!
With Love,
Kristen
